De Schotanus-Stichting, opgericht op 12 april 1955 te Franeker, is een van de langst bestaande, nog immer actieve familie-organisaties op ideële basis. Zij stelt zich ten doel het samenstellen van de familiegeschiedenis van de Schotanussen en het doen uitgeven van een standaardwerk over de dragers van de familienamen Schotanus, Scholtanus en Schotanus á Sterringa en mogelijk andere varianten van de naam Schotanus.

 The Schotanus-foundation is a voluntary organization and was founded in 1955 to try and compose the family-tree of all the Schotanuses all over the world. The history of the family goes back as far as the year 1385; the family-name refers to the village of Schoot in the province of Friesland in the North of the Netherlands.
